Business Spotlight: The Mole Hole, Places to shop Somerset, Kentucky - Kentucky Photographers

We had the pleasure of visiting the Mole Hole yesterday and boy oh boy, why have I never been in there before? I am such a Santa Claus, meaning I LOVE to gift people things and this place is the ultimate shop for finding the perfect gift. Along with personalized and Kentucky inspired gifts, the Mole Hole also sells gourmet chocolate and serves alcohol to visiting patrons. So many months and details were put into making this building/shop what it is. For example, Amanda Brooks (a local artist) hand painted clouds into the skylight (see pictured.) They used some of the materials for the walls from the old Food Fair building that is currently being remodeled into something new. The Mole Hole is in the heart of downtown Somerset and you can feel the local love that just pours out of its walls. If you’re visiting Somerset, The Mole Hole should be at the top of your shopping list.

The Character - Somerset is beautiful, artsy and eclectic and full of potential. My favorite small businesses are Everything Beautiful, Jarfly, Tap on Main and The Pink Bee.

DO YOU HAVE ANY EXCITING PLANS OR CHANGES FOR YOUR BUSINESS IN 2019?

We are right now incorporating liquor by the drink and will have wine/bourbon tastings after hours and for events, parties… etc. You are welcome to come have a drink anytime we’re open :)

TEST SHOT TUESDAY: Kentucky Fashion Photographer / Shooting with Kendra

You guys are going to be seeing so much of Kendra on our Test Shot Tuesday series as we just finished up an amaaaaazing shoot last week in addition to this one. We also have some more good stuff planned for the next few weeks so stay tuned! For this shoot, it was absolutely freezing and also midday which usually makes myself and other photographers squirm. But sometimes shooting midday is necessary to fit the vibe you’re going for so that’s exactly what we did. I really really wanted to feel that “fashionista, boss lady bada$$” vibe so I loved that we went with the houndstooth blazer as it helped Kendra’s style stand out from the horizon and kind of set the tone. I had no intentions of shooting with an actual plane but when we arrived, it greeted us across the runway and we both were immediately stoked! All of my photographer dreams came true that day. Kendra was amazing, the sky was a challenge but I learned to work through it and now I feel more confident in that mid-day harsh sun!

Business Spotlight: Downtown Deli - Best Places to eat in Somerset, Kentucky - Kentucky Photographers

Taylor and I (Sami Jo) spent our morning with the wonderful girls at Downtown Deli. Not only did we eat some very delicious dishes, we were able to hear the history behind why they serve their food the way that they do. Most of you may not know but Jamie, the owner, along side her employees hand-make the bread and soups every morning. The food quality they serve is exquisite and unlike fast food restaurants and other large food chains in the area, they use unprocessed meats from locally owned family farms. Jamie’s grandmother also used to bake pies downtown in the early 70’s which makes it even more special owning her own restaurant downtown. They have a photograph of her grandma walking across downtown Somerset hanging in the deli. Along with other photos of the square in the past, these photographs really set the tone of the proud Somerset southern hospitality they serve. There is no other place like it. So if you’re feeling hungry today at lunch, swing by Downtown Deli and let their freshly made deliciousness treat your taste buds.

Taylor enjoyed a basket filled with homemade chips and the Classic Club. I LOVE the Chicken Salad Croissant and fries.

Most of our foods are fresh made daily. Our meat is never frozen, bread made daily, and chopped lettuce for no preservatives in almost all of our dishes.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT SOMERSET AND THE 606 AREA? DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE SMALL BUSINESSES?

I think we are a close knit community that supports each other. I love all the boutiques and local pharmacies.I also love how many local artist show case their talents through art, music, and even foods!

We are now serving breakfast foods. We have Coffee, hot cocoa, and pastries.
